Locklear Appointed to Student Board Representative Position

The Oak Harbor School Board appointed high school sophomore Allena Locklear as its newest student representative at their Monday, May 13, meeting. Locklear will fill the junior student representative position in September, following the graduation of current high school senior representative Josiah Villano and the transition of student representative Maggie Litvachuk to the senior student representative position next school year.

Student representatives on the School Board are not voting members, but participate in critical conversations about school business and provide student perspective and insight.

“I want to become a student board representative to ensure the voices of students within our schools are heard, along with maintaining equity and accessibility of students in OHHS,” Locklear said in her application.

Locklear is an AP student involved in athletics, robotics, choir, and the National Honor Society, and has over 164 community service hours. In February she collaborated with two other students to coordinate Oak Harbor High School’s successful Girls STEM Day.
“Being a student board representative is a great opportunity to get more involved in local governments and leadership, which are great things to be a part of to try and make our voices heard,” said Locklear.

Locklear was one of 6 finalists for the position. After returning from the Executive Session and naming Locklear, Board President Lynn Goebel shared how proud the board was of each candidate for their input and participation in the process.
