The event, sponsored by Island Thrift, provides opportunities for female athletes to connect, inspire and empower each other through various breakout sessions. OHHS Athletic Director Jerrod Fleury shared the inspiration behind the event.

“After 27 years of coaching female athletes and seeing a student athlete recently struggle with mental health, we wanted to find a way to have a dedicated event to support our girls in sports so they can connect with each other and know they are never alone.” said Fleury

Sandy Zimmerman, who is a Division 1 Athlete and a contestant on American Ninja Warrior, was the featured keynote speaker for the event. Additionally, there were eight breakout sessions that focused on sports nutrition, sports psychology, goal-setting, mindset and leadership tools.

More than eight school districts were represented at this year’s event and more than 140 female athletes and coaches were in attendance. The goal is to eventually have more representation from across the region.

“We really want to provide more opportunities to inspire the next generation of female leaders to be strong individuals, “ said Fleury.
