The Oak Harbor Public Schools is pleased to announce the reopening of Veterans Memorial Stadium (formally known as Old Memorial Stadium) after months of renovation work to rentals.  The fields are located off E Whidbey Ave behind the district’s transportation department and will provide more centrally located public playing fields to the community. Additionally, the stadium includes lights to allow for additional playing time for youth sports.

“The renovation and reopening of Veterans Memorial Stadium came to fruition through the community’s collective voice and feedback about the need for additional field space,” said Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula, Superintendent of Oak Harbor Public Schools. “We were fortunate enough to be able to make it happen for our community. By investing a small amount into the playing fields, we hope it will serve as a resource for the children of Oak Harbor to foster connections and build recreational opportunities for Oak Harbor.”

The stadium is now available for facility rentals through the Oak Harbor Public Schools website. The fields were closed over the past year as the renovation project got underway, which included reseeding, replacing sprinklers and leveling the playing fields. Veterans Memorial Stadium used to be the high school’s football stadium before the passage of the 2005 Bond to build the Wildcat Memorial Stadium, which is used daily by students and the community for recreational activities.

For any organization interested in requesting the field space, please go to the Oak Harbor Public Schools website to fill out and submit a facilities’ request form with the Facilities Department. To ensure availability, please call 279-5961 before submitting a request.
