Oak Harbor Public Schools Public Records Requests

Timeline
Within five business days of receiving a public records request, we will respond in one of the following ways:

  • Provide the records
  • Provide a reasonable estimate of the time necessary to respond to the request
  • Contact the requestor to clarify the request
  • Deny the request and cite why it was denied

If the record requested contains information exempt from disclosure, the district will produce as much of the record as possible with the exempt portions redacted and include a written explanation of the redaction.

Under the Public Records Act, additional time is allowed for responding to a public records request when:

  • The agency needs clarification as to the scope of records being sought
  • Simply locating and gathering the records will take significant time
  • The agency must review the records, once gathered, to identify and redact any content that is protected from disclosure
  • An opportunity is needed for persons named in the records, or to whom they pertain, to seek the imposition of judicial limitations on the scope of records that will be disclosed to you, based on an assertion(s) of personal privacy rights that they may decide to initiate.

Cost for Electronic Records
Depending on the number of responsive records, we may require a 10% deposit fee of the estimated cost to produce the records requested. Our fee schedule can be found in the OHPS Board Policies.
