News Release: Three Oak Harbor Elementary Schools Receive State Recognition for Outstanding Achievement

The Oak Harbor Public Schools is proud to announce Olympic View, Hillcrest and Oak Harbor Elementaries recently earned state recognition for closing opportunity gaps and student growth in academic achievement as part of the Washington State Recognition Program.

"Emerging from the challenges of COVID hasn't been easy, but our dedicated staff have consistently focused on improving the academic outcomes for all students by addressing their unique needs and bridging achievement gaps”, said Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula, Oak Harbor Public Schools Superintendent,”This recognition highlights their remarkable achievements and unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. I couldn't be prouder of our staff and students for their incredible efforts."

Oak Harbor Elementary received the recognition for closing gaps for one or more student groups and academic growth for one or more student groups during the 2021-2022 school year. Olympic View and Hillcrest Elementary earned the recognition for growth for one or more student groups in the 2022-2023 school year. 

The State Board of Education (SBE), the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC), and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) honor the students as part of the Washington School Recognition Program.  For the 2021–22 and 2022–23 school years, 571 public schools in 178 school districts across Washington state have earned this recognition.
