On January 24, 2024, Oak Harbor Public Schools hosted its second annual State of the Schools event at Oak Harbor High School. State of the Schools is a public event and all #OneOakHarbor community members, parents, students, and educators were encouraged to attend.
The evening kicked off with a new student-led land acknowledgment read by student board representative Maggie Litvachuck and the Presentation of the Flag by Oak Harbor High School’s NJROTC with a performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” by Oak Harbor Intermediate School’s Pitch Perfect Panthers. A performance of the “Russian Sailor Song” by the Penn Cove Brass Ensemble followed.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula and Assistant Superintendent Dwight Lundstrom shared a comprehensive overview of the current state of the schools, highlights of achievements, challenges, priorities, initiatives, and plans to address the needs of Oak Harbor students.
Following the presentation, Oak Harbor High School drama students performed a sneak peek of their winter play, “Clue,” and the Oak Harbor High School choir closed out the program.
Attendees were able to connect with district administrators, teachers, architects for our new grant-funded schools, and fellow community members during an interactive student showcase over refreshments that were provided by Wildcat Catering.
Special thanks to CTE student Kirra Esparza for designing this year’s State of the School branding, and to Wildcat Media for livestreaming the event which can be viewed below.
