Exceptional Academy Hosts Annual Friendsgiving Meal for First Responders
Students in Oak Harbor Public Schools’ Exceptional Academy shared a delicious Friendsgiving feast with members of the Oak Harbor Police Department and district staff on Thursday. The students fulfilled every aspect of the meal, from the vibrant decorations around family-style seating to cooking from scratch. This year’s menu included herb-roasted turkey, glazed ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, apple crisp, and more.

Farm Fresh Veggies for Families

Thank you to Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative for the donation of fresh, local veggie boxes to Olympic View Elementary's bread pantry. The pantry is managed by OVE's PTA to provide free food for families in need. The donation is made possible through the support of Whidbey Island Grown's Community Food Access Matching Fund with the support of Food Hub customers on the island.

Career-Connected Learning is on Fire at Oak Harbor High School
Oak Harbor Fire Department Investigators Mike Buxton and Craig Anderson led two days of classes at Oak Harbor High School this week. Students in Zachary Sawhill's Forensics classes learned about accelerants, burn patterns, and arson evidence collection. Thank you to teacher Marc deLeuze and paraprofessional Teresa Warden-Wollas and their construction class for building the burn cells. And thank you to Linda Bushong at Floors Plus Carpet One for donating the carpet used in the burn cells.

You just never know what type of characters will show up for High Five Friday at Oak Harbor Elementary!

Mrs. Harrison's first graders at Hillcrest Elementary learned about the pancreas, insulin, and blood sugar levels as part of National Diabetes Awareness Week. Each student received a bag that included stickers and blue rubber bracelets they are now wearing to show support for friends and family members who live with diabetes. This was a perfect tie-in for their reading unit on the human body, a great way to show empathy, and a chance to learn what to do if a friend with diabetes is experiencing low blood sugar levels.

Pumpkin Pie Whip Dip

Elementary students have been tasting autumn foods through the Harvest of the Month program. In October students tried baked pear oatmeal breakfast bars. In November students tried pumpkin pie whip dip with apple slices.
